The elk are now losing their old antlers and growing new ones. They don't look nearly as large without the big antlers.
After they lose their winter antlers, all you can see on their heads are little nubs.
These velvet antlers seems to be growing really fast.
And, if you are really lucky and have a great hunting dog, you may find an antler in the field before all the fiield mice eat it!
